ChatTools privacy statement - 100% on-device

All data used by ChatTools family of apps is stored locally on the user’s device.
I'm a big advocate of data privacy so I design my apps in a way that *you* control your chat data.
The apps ChatShots and ChatPDF collect NO data from your phone or your chats – no personally identifiable, no usage information and no message content either. Nothing is sent to any servers, and everything is stored within the apps private directories as dictated by Apple's app design guidelines. You can confirm this by using the app offline.
When you delete a ChatShot or a ChatPDF or an imported chat or any other artefact from within the app, it is completely removed from your iPhone.

How the ChatTools apps use your exported WhatsApp data

  • Importing process:
  • a) WhatsApp exports a .zip file of your chat history and attachments
  • b) The .zip file is received by the ChatTools app and is unzipped. The original .zip file is deleted
  • c) The chat history is stored in a text file (_chat.txt). The ChatTools app proceses this file line by line and the messages, sender and timestamp are stored in a local MySQL database
  • d) Any relevant attachments (images, voice messages) are stored in the ChatTools app's private sandboxed directory. Any non-relevant atttachments are deleted

  • Deleting data from a ChatTools app:
  • a) When a chat is deleted, the relevent entries from the MySQL database are deleted along with any attachments that have been stored
  • b) When any artefacts created by a ChatTools app (PDF, images etc) are deleted they are deleted from the app's private sandboxed directory.
